How long has Regenerative Agriculture been around?

Regenerative farming is anything but new or revolutionary. Though the Rodale Institue coined "Regenerative Agriculture" in the 70's, and there has been a lot of new enthusiasm around the term recently, the concept - humans and nature are not separate forces, but parts of a whole that need each other to thrive - originated with Indigenous peoples around the world and has been in practice for thousands of years.

Regenerative agriculture supports this by focusing on restoring the health of the soil and the ecosystem as a whole to continue enriching the land so it can provide for us now and remain rich and healthy for generations to come.

What's the difference between Conventional & Regenerative Farming?

Conventional farms historically focus on the crop yield - unfortunately, to the detriment of soil health.

Regenerative agriculture primarily seeks to improve the health of soil to create both profitable AND healthy crops.

So why is Regen Ag important?

You probably hear the word sustainable all the time. Sustainable means that something is able to be maintained at a certain rate or level. BUT, 38% of global agricultural land right now is already degraded, so "sustainable" isn't enough anymore. We need to regenerate. 'If sustainability is the bridge, regeneration is the destination.'

Farmers using regenerative methods are committed to the relationships between soil, food, and the people and livestock who eat the food.

Regenerative farmers don't just view their yield and the health of the crops, but also the health of the microorganisms and soil dwellers as a whole.

This is a radical and commendable departure from earlier ways of looking at food and agriculture.

Should I seek more Regeneratively grown products?

Yes, start looking for the R.O.C. symbol. You'll see more brands committing to it every day.

According to the Rodale Institute, regenerative farming is ". . . a method of farming that improves the resources it uses, rather than destroying or depleting them.”

A heavy emphasis is placed on soil health, but attention is also paid to water management, erosion control, cover cropping, and the well-being of all who share that ecosystem. That includes any livestock, YOU and YOUR FAMILY.

The goal of regenerative farming is to rehabilitate and enhance the entire ecosystem of our world - one farm at a time.
